Festival of Trees in May

Dear families and friends of festival,
I was checking my old festival letters, three years ago I started in October, then the letter was generated in July and here I am writing in May and feel like I am already behind. This year I will be the chair for Inventory and decorations. After working in this area last year I know it is a huge job and I need all the help I can get.
I am hoping to get my small fry assignments, trees and donations completed early. I must have been high on something because I picked out three small fry projects. I did it mostly because I have never been to the meeting early enough to make a choice and second I have had several scouts approach me for Eagle projects and I wanted to make sure I something for them.
The first small fry project is Santa’s key. The instruction reads: Find old keys and tie the key to the poem that you have put on card stock. Poem: If you have no chimney on Christmas Eve awaiting the presents that Santa will leave just hang this key by the door for him and all the gifts will be left within. .
The second small fry project is Santa suit box. Materials needed red card stock, black ribbon and pop tabs. Cut 6 x 6 square card stock, follow the instructions to make origami box. Make box sleeve. Cut black ribbon 6 ½ inch, thread ribbon through the pop tab and wrap around the box. I need 150 of these. The box is cute and could be done in many colors.
The third small fry project is candy bar snowman. Materials needed candy bars, white paper, orange foam, pomp poms. The directions state rollup candy bar in white paper, draw on eyes and mouth, glue on nose, tie scarf add buttons.
I also have the following materials that could be used for festival projects that are perfect for church groups, young men and women service hours, relief society super Saturdays.
I have a box full of Christmas tree decorations that could be put together for the theme, “hopping around the Christmas tree”. There are enough small frog items to put together a small tree.
I have a box full of items and a small ark that could easily be put together for a Noah’s ark small tree
I have enough gold ornaments that could be put together for a small tree
I have material and batting for 10 quilts. This year we are having a quilt walk and festival is looking for patch work hand sewn quilts to display
I have two bear quilts that need to be sewn together and one bag full of ready to sew items. So if you can sew, which is a lost art, please think about doing these
I have 15 tool belts that need to be filled with dollar toys and packaged for gift shop
I have one apple box full of yarn
Gift shop has asked that we make more pioneer pockets in Christmas materials. I also have the opportunity to sell pioneer pocket at the upcoming freedom festival with all the funds going to festival. I have the material and just need people will to sew them up in the next few months.
If any one has a lead or knows some one who might be willing to help I desperately need to find
Truck driver and trucks to move the inventory
Wed Nov 25, Fri Nov 27 Sat Nov 28 and Sun Dec 6
Forks lift drivers and fork lifts to move the inventory
Sat Nov 28 and Sun Dec 6
Handy men that can help put together display and lights
Sat Nov 28 Mon Nov 30
Professional movers to move the inventory
Wed Nov 25, Fri Nov 27 Sat Nov 28 and Sun Dec 6
Decorator who would be willing to decorate the front lobby Monday November 30
During festival I am looking for People to work opening night in invoicing and through the week in invoicing. Volunteers in Santa Land and I will need a whole crew to go through the inventory and repackage it. More info to come about Sweet shoppe items.
Hopefully you will all “pen “in the festival dates on your calendar and plan to participate.
December 2 through 5th
Last year Festival raised $1,495,840.74 for Primary Children’s hospital.
If you are planning on doing your own tree, please let me know so I can get you register and get your tree next to mine. Out family tree this year is based on the Christmas Story,
A Wish to Be a Christmas tree.
You can listen to the story at the following website
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtFHTk9VVXw
Thank you so much for thinking about festival and hopefully this year your schedule will allow you to volunteer. If not, please plan to attend and enjoy.

I did it ( almost )

True confessions: This morning while driving t the gym at 5:30 am I noticed my girlfriend on the road walking to the gym. And yes ,thoughts came to my mind to just take one little twist of the wheel and down she would go. Luckily I do have common sense even at 5:30 am and just kept driving. After all, You don't tug on superman's cape. You don't spit into the wind. You don't pull the mask off that old lone ranger. And you don't mess around with a girlfriend. She has been my hero and keeps me going to the gym. And even though I am green ( which looks terrible with my new purple hair - which is another story in itself ) she has lost all her weight plus some, she has conquered walking, running, biking and has now added swimming. Darn her. Plus she makes it look so easy. I still struggle and it is a lot of hard work. June marks my half way mark to my goal and if you were to talk to my doctor, I have dropped my cholesterol down from 150 to 100, my good HDl is 44 and my bad LDL was not even measurable so he is extremely happy. My chiropractor said he does not even recognize my back. BUT I am only 1/2 way to the weight I want to lose and it seems as if it will never happen. I am asking for a membership to lifetime for my birthday and plan to mix it up a bit for the summer so no matter however long the road, I plan to stay on it. So move over girlfriend!

Moving to the country

I guess it is no news we are looking for a new house. After 25 years we are looking for something else. Yesterday we were talking about moving and why we wanted to do it. I went on to explain to Rob that I did not want to be fifty years old and missed out on having pigs, goats and chickens. In mid stream, I had to correct myself-- hey I am already fifty. What the heck, I have missed it and didn't even know it.
There are other reasons, we want peace, quiet and to stop keeping up with the neighbors. We want more free weekends and less yard work. The list is long. Still is it a bit overwheming to move and I am not really looking forward to al lthe work.

Kids say the darnest things

The kids an I love to play in the basement. There are lots of toys and no parents. I was down sitting on the couch listening to Ambree and Kyler play in Colby's old bedroom. Then I heard a "thung" immediately Kyler is apologizing to Ambree and telling he is so sorry and is she okay. She does not reply for a minute and it is extremely quiet. Thung! "How does that feel ? Ambree says to Kyler. Thung , "It feels like that" says Kyler back to Ambree. Now I butt in and tell them to say they are sorry and to hug. Ambree tells Kyler he has to say sorry first, Kyler immediately comes back that Ambree has to say sorry first. Butting in again, I tell them they both need to say sorry on three and then hug. ONE - Two - Three . they both say sorry and as they hug Kyler says I love you Ambree and Ambree says I love you Ky and they are back playing.

My favorite Sara Story

Sara and Matt were so much fun together when they were little. They spent some much time together. Bu they were as different as might and day. Sara was tall , skinny, picky, pink, lots of hairs and all girl . Matt was shorter, stocky, brown and all boy. At an early age it was easy to see all the differences. I had Sara for the day and she and Matt were just starting to crawl. They were in their pajamas. Back then the pajama bottoms snapped to the pajama top. Well like always Sara's pajama's were all snapped up and Matt's pajamas were not snapped at all. Matt was sitting there playing with a toy and Sara crawled over and proceeds to try and snap his pants . Matt is irritated and crawls away. Sara crawls after him. Matt moves. Sara crawls after him and it goes on for at last 30 minutes . Or should I say the the next 30 years

This is NOT my favorite travel story but

I know the boys will all bring it up since my last post so I might as well get it over with. Rob and I were traveling to Alaska for a cruise and it is an extremely long flight and I might have a little attention problem. The seat was uncomfortable so I was sitting backwards in the seat facing the back of the plane. I was holding a small glass of water WHEN the plane - which had had a perfectly smooth flight until now- bumped. Well my glass of water split and it split right into the crouch of the sleep man behind me. Unfortunately I was laughing so hard I could not apologize and Rob not only had to apologize but explain why I was laughing so hard. Hey- it could happen to anyone

favorite travel story

This might have to be one of those stories that are funny if you were there but I will try. We were in ST George and all of us were in the car traveling down the road. Every thing was crazy as ever with our minds some place else. I am in the front seat drinking a drink when all of the sudden the car is slammed with a huge burst of water from the irrigation watering from the fields. It scares all of us plus we are all soaked. Rob stops the car as we try to figure out what just happened. All of the windows are closed and we cannot figure out why we are so wet. Well after some investigation and some gut busting laughs we decide the water hit the car, which scared us and cause dme to throw my drink onto everyone. Seriously I coudl not stop laughing and had to get out of the car ot get a hold of myself.
Guess you had to be there.

Favorite Nicole Story

Brent and Nicole were inseparable as children. Nicole idolized Brent and followed him every he went. I was tending one day and the kids were out playing on the playhouse. Rob had built it and the best way to get down was the metal pole like a fireman. I was in the house and had been in the shower and was looking out the window to check on them. Brent was at the bottom of the pole and Nicole was at the top. Brent was telling her it was okay, to come on down the pole and he would catch her. She was looking down at him scared as can be . She was little and had never done it before. Brent was telling her it was easy and he would caught her. Well Nicole believed him and trusted him so she grabbed the pole and down she went. Brent moved right out of the way and she landed on her bottom. She was fine but I was laughing so hard they both looked up at me. They jumped up and started playing again but I never saw Nicole going down the pole. Fool me once

Favorite Jessica story

I was lucky to be able to tend Jessica every Wednesday when she was small. It was a the best day of the week for me. When she was at our house she heard the boys call me mom so it was only natural that she called me mom too. I did no t say anything ( kind of enjoyed it) as I knew that it would not be for long. One day she arrived and as always we went went out to jump on the tramp. She was looking at me and came over and pointed to my chest and said Aunt Debbi. I said yes I am aunt debbi. We both agreed and the she said Okay momma lets go inside. It was so funny I will always remember it

Favorite Colby Story

Colby was in first grade and was a kind child always caring about the other kids. He came home from school one day and when asked about how they day went he began his story about the days events. It would seem they had tests that day and the teacher wanted to know what each child knew and so they had built little work stations so they could take a test and no one could see what the other was doing. It was hard and Colby knew his friend was struggling. He was frustrated and wanted to help him but they teacher had told him that he could not help. Colby was explaining to us that his Friend had to see the farter at school. We had no idea what he was talking about and questioned him about this farter.
His friend struggled in class so every day the friend had to leave class and go be with the farter. Now it is processing and we ask, Do you mean the Tutor? Oh yes that is what he meant the tutor not the farter. We have never looked at teachers the same since.

Favorite Twins Story

Again I was tending and had the twins for the day. I had big plans to clean the upstairs bedroom while they "played" I was hard at work when I started hearing some mysterious sounds. Upon investigation, the sound was the twins throwing Brent's stuff down the stairs. Immediate panic sets in as no one touches Brent's stuff. As I explain to them that unless they want to die young they had better not do this. In unison the boys explain" oh we are so sorry Aunt Debbi, we will never do it again" Well all you have to do is call me aunt Debbi and I melt so I tell them it is fine and go back to work. Moments later I hear mysterious sounds again and upon investigation, it is the twins throwing stuff down the stairs. HUM. When they see me , they explain "Oh we are so sorry,Aunt Debbi, we won't do it again. Well you know the old saying , fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. Well Ican never remember what happens for fool me three times so I stop cleaning the room. I pack up the boys and we go the village inn for the breakfast buffet. We make a huge mess and leave. Then we head to chuck -e -cheese and play on the toys and leave, then we hit the movies and then head over to Fred Meyer and play with every single toy they have on the shelves. Fred meyers announcing they are closing, the boys pick out Rat Fink racers and I take them home.
But I waill always remember they plea.

Favorite Ashlee story

So the new camera thing is not working out too good. Hence no posts. So I have decided to do something else., my Favorite stories.
I was tending Ashlee and the twins one day and we were busy doing all kinds of things. I remember being in the house when Ashlee came running in to inform me that the twins were eating dog food. We both went out to the garage and they were indeed feasting on my the dry dog food in the garage. Dry dog isn't all that gross so I told Ashlee that it was fine. Her little face was astonished. Surely the aunt would not let this continue to happen. We sat down on the garage step and I began to tell her that her own father, Mr stinky yoyo ate dog food all the time when he was little and how grandma use to have to hide the food food from him. She was amazed and agreed that it was okay.
Looking back I can only hope she has forgive me and knows now that if my own grand sons were to be feasting on dog food, I would have to ay " no"..With age does come some wisdom.
But if you are raised with people eating dog , well you just think it is alright.
